Purpose Driven Marketing: Build a Better Brand

As we grow closer to wrapping up the second month of the new year, have you noticed any trends or changes within your business? Increasing or slowing sales? New revenue avenues? Closed revenue channels? Partnership opportunities? Is your brand weakening or growing stronger?

If your business is interested in building a better brand, there is a new marketing 'buzz word' shaking up the small business world - "Purpose Driven Marketing". What is purpose driven marketing and how is it different from traditional marketing terms? Purpose driven marketing allows your business to build purpose into your day-to-day operations, mission, and values.

How do you decide your purpose? The first place to start is creating a mission statement for your business. What does your business do, how do you provide this product or service better than anyone else, and why should people work with you. This is the essence of your purpose. Many business owners write a mission statement when they open a business, and quickly file it away with the rest of the business planning paperwork when the rubber hits the road. Living your businesses purpose reminds us that we should review, revisit, and remember our unique mission.

Another great way to drive purpose within your business is to remind our customers what that purpose is. Are you sustainable? Organic? Devoted to the local community or special cause? Dive into your mission statement to uncover your unique purpose and weave that purpose into your operations. Ensure that your managers, team members, and most importantly - customers, are aware of your purpose. This awareness will resonate and help elevate your brand.

Once you have identified you purpose, don't be afraid to tell your team, customers, and community of your direction. With repetition and time, customers will feel the bond to your purpose and allows them to tell others about your brand.
